Preston North End

Another 12 miles to Preston but this time through a cloud burst. I was cycling in a river and getting showered in spray by passing cars and lorries. Battling the strong wind as well caused me to consider seriously what the dickens I was doing this all for. Many of you might have thought the same! Doing my Neptune impression I dripped my way to the reception desk and asked to see my contact Gary Robinson. On seeing me he made some crass remark that I looked as though I had been in the rain. I resisted the temptation to ram a soggy glove down his throat! We went into the ground and had photos taken with Bill Shankley and Sir Tom Finney as back drops. Their images are in the seating patterns. Gary told me that Sir Tom still comes to the ground every Thursday so I am a couple of days early. 14 miles down the road I found some digs. A wet, depressing day, but 50 more miles nearer to home.

Rob,

Congratulations on reaching Deepdale. Sorry you missed "Plumber Tom" in person, but I am glad there was someone to meet you and get your picture by his statue.

You may remember that I told you about Cousin Reg. (the duck and cornfed chicken man) I was speaking to him this afternoon - he had just delivered about 100 chicken breasts to the Rovers and was on his way down to Shropshire. He is interested in your challenge and has promised a presentation box for a raffle or whatever. He says they usually raise about £60 to £80. He will have it delivered overnight in cool/styrene to the winner. Let's organise something when you get back.

Congratulations on what you have achieved so far.

Bob

P.S. What about the Port Vale result?!

Rob,
I think this trip will have changed your perspective on the sport, the people, the money and where true values lie. Then there is the pathway you are riding... the ups and downs, the traffic and the weather! Keep that spirit open and looking upwards to understand all this so that when you get back home to your lovely wife you can carry her along being her legs and eyes... life is for sharing!
Keep going
Marc & Debbie.

Keep a sound heart and strong legs Rob in the knowledge that you are nearing the end of a truly incredible feat for a fantastic cause.
